Relationships
Ever feel tension in your relationships and wonder, “Why is this so hard—and what does God actually expect from me?”
Colossians 3:18–4:6 gives practical, challenging, and freeing wisdom on how to put Jesus over every relationship in our lives. Paul highlights three key areas that need to be transformed:
• In the Home — God establishes order, not as a measure of value but for health and protection. Wives are called to voluntarily submit to their husbands—not out of coercion, and never in cases of sin, abuse, addiction, or unfaithfulness. Husbands are commanded to love with agape—a sacrificial, unconditional love that mirrors Christ’s love for the church.
• Parenting & Family — Children honor God by honoring their parents. Parents must discipline with love, not criticism or impossible standards; encouragement and grace prevent discouragement and help children thrive.
• Work & Leadership — Whether serving in the church or workplace, we work as unto the Lord. Employees obey with integrity, and employers treat people with fairness, knowing we all answer to God.
Paul closes by calling us to devote ourselves to prayer—staying watchful, aware, and filled with grace. When our words are “seasoned with salt,” they purify, preserve, and ultimately bring healing.
When Jesus shapes our relationships, everything changes.
